Fall 2025 CA-SFEC Quarterly Update
Highlights and Partnerships
San Bernardino Parent and Community Engagement Summit
CA-SFEC proudly sponsored the Family and Community Engagement Summit in San Bernardino, which welcomed nearly 1,000 participants from across the region. The event brought together educators, parents, and community leaders to explore practical strategies for deepening family-school partnerships. A highlight of the summit included a private book signing and keynote session attended by more than 50 County Office of Education representatives who shared insights on advancing family engagement at the district and state levels.
Building on the momentum of this summit, CA-SFEC continues to uplift and apply the principles of Dr. Karen Mapp’s Dual Capacity-Building Framework for Family-School Partnerships across our statewide initiatives. This evidence-based model remains central to our mission, guiding how we equip educators and families to strengthen trust, improve communication, and share responsibility for student success.
Language Access and Inclusion
CA-SFEC co-sponsored the annual Orange County Department of Education Interpreters and Translators Conference, an event that celebrates the vital role of language access in education. The conference featured keynote speakers and workshops that highlighted how language equity serves as a foundation for connecting schools with diverse families. Through this partnership, CA-SFEC continues to champion the importance of inclusion and accessibility in every aspect of family engagement.
Communities of Practice with NAFSCE
In collaboration with the National Association for Family, School, and Community Engagement (NAFSCE), CA-SFEC continues to lead statewide Communities of Practice (COPs) that bring together educators, county offices, and family engagement professionals. These one-hour virtual sessions create space to share promising practices, address common challenges, and elevate innovative solutions that strengthen family-school relationships. Stay tuned for the next round of sessions to be announced soon.
Supporting First-Generation College Students
CA-SFEC was honored to participate as a panelist at Modesto Junior College, where the discussion focused on supporting first-generation college students. The panel explored how family engagement plays a critical role in student motivation, access, and long-term success. By connecting higher education institutions with family engagement leaders, CA-SFEC continues to expand the impact of its work beyond K–12 education.
California at the NAFSCE National Assembly
CA-SFEC sponsored a California delegation of family engagement practitioners to join, learn, reflect, and connect alongside national experts and researchers at the NAFSCE National Assembly in New Orleans, Louisiana. The week-long conference welcomed more than one thousand participants and featured interactive breakout sessions, thought-provoking panels, and a celebratory second line that brought the community together. Our delegation shared promising practices from across California and gathered new ideas to strengthen family, school, and community partnerships back home.
